Free Parenting Classes and One-Day Seminars
Because of generous funding from the Los Angeles County Children and Families First
Proposition 10 Commission, CICC is proud to be able to offer free parenting classes and seminars for parents
(natural, foster, adoptive), other persons responsible for raising children (grandparents, aunts,
uncles, etc.) and for childcare professionals who ....
- have or work with a young child (birth to age five) who is
- enrolled in some form of childcare or early childhood education, such as being taken care
of in a childcare center, a family childcare home, and a public or private preschool, a Head
Start agency, etc., and who
- lives in any community in Los Angeles County.
The classes and seminars teach the effective parenting skills and strategies of the following
well-known and thoroughly researched parenting programs:

Differences Between Classes and Seminars
Parenting Skill-Building Classes
- The classes provide in-depth teaching of all of the parenting skills and strategies within
each particular parenting program.
- Classes meet once a week for two- to three-hour sessions:
- Confident Parenting - 10 sessions, 2 hours per session
- Effective Black Parenting - 15 sessions, 3 hours per session
- Los Niños Bien Educados - 12 sessions, 3 hours per session
- Early Childhood STEP - 10 sessions, 2 hours per session
- School Success from the Start - Only taught as a one-day seminar
- Steps to Independence - 10 sessions, 2 hours per session
- Approximately 20 to 35 parents attend each class.
- Parents learn and practice skills and strategies during class sessions, use skills and strategies
at home with their children, and share their experiences at next class sessions to get feedback and
assistance from instructor and classmates.
One-Day Parenting Skill-Building Seminars
These full-day training seminars teach many of the parenting skills and strategies within each
particular program, but in a briefer format.
Seminars last from 8:00am to 5:00pm or 9:00am to 4:00pm.
Approximately 75 to 150 parents attend per seminar.
Parents learn and practice some of the skills at the seminar through role-playing.
Free Enrollment
The classes and seminars listed on the Schedule of Upcoming Parenting Classes and Seminars are being
provided free because of funding that CICC has received from the Los Angeles County Children and Families
First Proposition 10 Commission.
The enrollment fees for these types of classes and seminars usually run up to $375 per parent for classes
and up to $75 per parent for seminars.
ENROLL IN A FREE CLASS OR SEMINAR
Enrollment Time Table and Procedures
Because of limited enrollments available, it is recommended that you submit an enrollment form and the
refundable reservation fee at least one week before the class or seminar start date via mail, fax or phone.
You will be contacted within a week from the date your enrollment is received, to let you know whether you
have been accepted to attend the class or seminar.
Free Parenting Handbook
All persons who are accepted into the classes and seminars receive a free Parent Handbook for them to use
and keep for themselves and their families.
Free Child Care, Snacks, Breakfast and Lunch
Free childcare is available for children in the two to eight year age range. However, there is limited
space, so it is very important to enroll as soon as possible. Licensed childcare professionals care for
your children and conduct social and educational games and activities.
Nutritious snacks and beverages are provided at each of the classes for both children and parents, and
a continental breakfast and full lunch is provided for the seminars.
Attendance and Participation Bonuses
CICC recognizes the effort and planning that is needed to get a family ready to participate in parenting
classes and seminars. CICC also recognizes that doing homework and finding time to read and review
parenting handbooks is not easy for today's busy parents.
In recognition of these additional responsibilities, CICC is making available bonuses and prizes for
attendance and solid participation. Thus, parents who complete the program earn the opportunity to enter
a drawing for prizes, such as a home computer system.
Transportation
For some classes and seminars, CICC is able to assist with transportation. Call CICC to explore this
possibility: (800) 325-CICC.
Certificates of Completion
CICC is pleased to provide each parent with a certificate that indicates that he or she has completed a
particular class or seminar.
- Certificates for seminar completion are given out at the end of the seminar day.
- Certificates for the multiple-session classes are provided at the last meeting or graduation of the classes.
Please contact CICC at (800) 325-CICC if additional proof of completion is required.
Class and Seminar Evaluations
To maintain the high quality of classes and seminars that CICC is known for, it is very important that parents
complete evaluation questionnaires.
These questionnaires allow you to evaluate the class itself and the class instructor, or the seminar and
seminar leader. They also allow you to say what you and your family learned from the classes and seminars,
and how your lives and relationships have been changed or affected.
